Closing-line value (CLV), explained
CLV compares the price you took with the market's price when the game started. It's the most honest measure of your prices.
Closing-line value compares the price you got with the price at the close, when the game starts and the market has absorbed the most information. If you took +120 and the close was +105, you got a better price than the final market: positive CLV.
Why people track it
Results swing a lot over small samples; a good bettor can lose for weeks and a careless one can run hot. CLV is far less noisy: it tells you whether your prices were good, independent of how the games went. It says nothing certain about future results, though.
How Coconuts shows it
Add a bet from any Coconuts card and the free tracker records that market's closing price when the game starts, then shows your CLV per bet and on average. Learn the maths behind fair prices with the no-vig calculator.
