Why sportsbooks limit accounts
Books can cap stakes or close accounts, especially for bettors who regularly take their best prices. Here's how it works.
Sportsbooks are businesses that choose which bets they accept. If a book thinks an account consistently takes prices that are better than the market, it may lower that account's maximum stakes, sometimes to a few dollars, or close it.
What tends to trigger it
- Regularly taking prices that later move against the book (good closing-line value).
- Betting mostly on lines that are out of step with other books (arbitrage and "off-market" prices).
- Patterns like max stakes on obscure markets right after a price posts.
What it means for you
It's the book's call, and it can happen. Keep your records tidy, read each book's terms, and don't count on any one account staying open. Coconuts never connects to your accounts and never places bets for you.
